According to my mother I am a very boring college student. I don't go to crazy wild parties, I don't have wild sex, and I spend my Friday nights at my parents house eating dinner with them. And really, that's okay with me. I don't have time to waste on parties I may not remember in the morning and puking in the bushes. That does not appeal to me in the least. There are TONS of "recreational" drug users, I'm trying to avoid them so that I can keep my brain cells. I'm a little short handed as it is and I don't think that'd help any. I need to get a 4 point this year so that next year I can apply for the honors college, get accepted there and then when I apply to MCV, the medical school associated with VCU I'll have a "preferred" application. Basically meaning unless I completely screw it up, hopefully they'll like me more because I went to their college... hopefully. This is what they tell me anyway.
So where in the midst of all of this do you fit in crazy toga parties? It helps that I don't live on campus, that way I can just escape it all and go home and study. According to their formula I should be studying 2 hours for each credit hour. That's 36 hours a week plus my 30 hours I work at Cracker Barrel plus driving back and forth and somewhere I fit in eating and sleeping if I have the spare time, and this week I'm housesitting for the neighbor and taking care of their pets. I know I work to much, trust me I know, I hear it from my mom nearly every single day. I'm working on cutting back so I don't fail at life. But even if I do, where do you fit in a social life?
Last night I brought my friend home and she ate dinner with us and then we went to her dorm and watched a movie, then I had to drive home and got to bed then wake up at 6 to get ready for work. I haven't quite figured out that "balance" yet. I'm still working on it yet.
So far college feels pretty much the same as high school, you show up, don't necessarily have to pay attention and then study for the tests/quizzes and pass the class. I know it's going to get harder and I'm dreading that. Already this week I had an energy quiz, a math test and a quiz, and also my poli sci map quiz ( I think I did okay), and I had an english essay due. All in the span of one week so I can only assume that things are going to get worse. They have to get worse before they can get better right?

Yippee!!!
Super happy right now. Just realized that my map quiz isn't until September 12th, that means that if I continue studying I should actually have all of the countries memorized by then hooray!!! (by the way that's called the spacing effect, yay for psychology class). Needless to say I thought the test was today and I'm not exactly ready for it. Don't get me wrong I've been studying but it's hard to memorize nearly 200 countries in a few day span when you're working and have other homework and studying to do. But no worries I should be good now, what a relief that is. Otherwise nothing too exciting. I donated blood last Friday in between classes and attempted to figure out the bus route. Not helpful when there are no maps or anything to help me navigate, plus I get lost really easily, that was an eventful day.
Sunday I worked and did homework, how utterly thrilling.
Monday was Labor Day and seriously I did some true labor. They were going to be short handed at work and were expecting a busy day since people were traveling and wouldn't want to have to go cook a meal or come home and do more work. (I work at Cracker Barrel as a waitress by the way) So they asked me if I could come in early on Monday to help out. I said sure no problem since I was schedule from 4-10pm and I figured a few extra hours wouldn't hurt and I'm a broke college student so I can always use the money (can't we all?). Yeah couple extra hours turned into a 13 hour shift.... oh boy, that was something alright. I was all fine and dandy until they gave me a 6 table section and then one of my tables and one of another servers were combined for a party that was coming in. Well she didn't want to take it and neither did I because I already had 4 of my tables filled but I took it since she's brand new and needed the help. Well the "party" was literally that it was a group of 10 and everything that could go wrong did. The cooks messed up nearly every single order, instead of fried chicken they gave me grilled, they forgot to put the steak on the grill for a woman's steak salad, I got mashed potatoes and corn instead of macaroni and cheese and green beans, along with countless other things. Then I messed up a lot of things like gave her the Stewart's orange soda instead of the Fanta orange soda, etc. While all of this is happening my other tables are wondering where I am and why they haven't gotten their food, drinks refilled, empty plates taken away, been given the check, etc. It was really frustrating because I'm not supposed to have that many tables and then I got a 10 top among everything. Plus everyone else was busy or taking their breaks or doing who knows what so there was no one to help me out. Not fun, not fun at all. I NEVER want that to happen again. All the rest of the day was fine, it was just that one hour span or so in the middle that muddled everything up.
Tuesday I had classes, my energy class, literature, and pre-calculus (which is still ridiculous). I get done around 8:45 on Tuesdays and Thursdays so I went home, ate dinner studied then slept. Today, Wednesday got up at 6 with the rest of my family now that Pierce has started school. My dad usually leaves for work by 6 o' clock so don't see him in the mornings but Pierce, mom, and I all eat breakfast together and mom makes our lunches. Yes, I still have my mother make my lunch. Hey! It's free, better than the food here and I don't have to stop someplace to eat, I can snack whenever I feel. So it works out for me. Had my University 101 Pre-Health class today. Pretty much like Health Applications all over again. I can tell this is going to be a great class, at least an easy A right? Have that then I have a two hour break between classes which is where I am now, I studied countries for an hour or so and now I'm waiting for a friend and we're going to the Open House in the Commons that is all about the different clubs on campus and stuff. Then after that I have my internation studies (no test... yay!) and biology class which is also just a review of biology and A&P from MMACHS. I'm hoping that one is just a review the entire year and doesn't get too complicated or anything like that, one less thing I have to worry about. After that I'm going to work and working till 9 tonight (I don't have to close :]) then coming home, eating and studying. Then doing it all over again!!!!
I can tell you guys are all jealous of my utterly fabulous life, if you can call it that...haha. Hope everyone has a splendiforous day!
